ABOUT ME
I am passionate about language. What and how you write — your voice — says a lot about you. I’ve worked with reporters and writers from intern level to book authors, and love mentoring people who want to write well.
I’m a 30-plus-year journalist; I spent most of my career as an editor at the Los Angeles Times, where I worked with reporters on a number of topics: Breaking news, city government, education, environment, crime and more. I’ve also edited magazines and manuscripts.
I was a member of several Pulitzer Prize-winning teams, both for breaking news and investigations.
And yes, I’m a big fan of purple. I’m also an avid dog and horse person. Or horse and dog person. Whichever.
MY COACHING METHOD
-
Say what?
Every writer has a voice. Let’s find yours.
-
grammar can bend
It doesn’t like to, but it can. Your voice, your grammar. (Within reason.)
-
Write what you know
Or else research thoroughly before you start. Your readers will know if you skip this step.
